Barratt Gives Wildlife New Homes in Bristol
BARRATT is giving wildlife in Bristol a help on the housing ladder as part of its development at hanham hall.
Work is now underway on England’s first large scale zero carbon development with housing provision for the existing residents top of the agenda.
Specially created logpiles are currently being built to provide the perfect environment for insects – including the protected stag beetle.
Barratt is working with UK Biodiversity in Action at hanham hall and ecologist Dr Pippa Wood said the work is vital in protecting a range of animals.
“Ensuring the survival of insects such as the stag beetle is incredibly important, not only because they are protected but it is essential to maintain a balance in the ecosystem,’’ said Pippa.
Barratt sales director, Andrea Pilgrim commented: “We are committed to providing environmentally friendly and stylish housing at hanham hall and are delighted that the wildlife are already enjoying the Barratt way of life.’’
In addition to the logpiles, the current project is providing new homes for hedgehogs and slowworms.
Once the animals have new homes Barratt will be creating more than 200 new properties at hanham hall and redeveloping the Grade II* listed former hospital to create a new community centre with restaurant, café, farm shop, crèche and office space.
